Life: A Poem by Beverley Bender

Life

A small bit of green peeks through the snow

Reaching out to receive a kiss of warmth from the sun.

Soon he develops into a little growing shoot.

With his birth, spring has arrived.

As summer comes, he bends his little stem and grows,

Swaying gently to and fro in the mild summer breezes.

The warm sun and the gentle rains enrich his life

And he grows into a beautiful flower.

The autumn air is chilly and he begins to lose his petals.

He looks around at the leaves falling of various colors to the ground.

Frost comes- and his life passes before him.

He has known life in its fullest- warmth from the sun,

Gentleness of the rain, the joys of being a lovely flower-

And a part of God’s world.
